Blueberry Chamomile Compote
Description
Sweet blueberries gently simmer into a glossy, jammy compote with a barely there chamomile infusion that stays smooth and never bitter. The floral note sits quietly in the background so the blueberries remain the star. Clean ingredients and simple preparation avoid artificial thickeners or preservatives. Naturally sweetened and gently cooked, it supports a more wholesome, non toxic alternative to store bought syrups.
Ingredients
- 1/2 Cup of Filtered Water
- 1 Teaspoon of Dried Chamomile Flowers
- 1 Cup of Organic Fresh or Frozen Blueberries
- 2 Tablespoons of Organic Cane Sugar
- 1 Teaspoon of Vanilla Extract
Equipment
- Saucepan
- Fine Mesh Stainless Steel Strainer
- Liquid Measuring Cup
- Measuring Spoons
- Spoon
Instructions
-
Bring the water to a gentle simmer in a small saucepan, then remove from heat.
-
Add the dried chamomile flowers to a stainless steel strainer and steep for 2 to 3 minutes only to keep the flavor very light.
-
Strain out the chamomile flowers using a fine mesh strainer, keeping only the infused tea. Do not press the flowers.
-
Add the blueberries and sugar directly into the chamomile tea in the saucepan.
-
Place over medium heat and bring to a gentle simmer, stirring occasionally.
-
Cook for 8 to 10 minutes, lightly pressing some of the blueberries with a spoon until the mixture thickens slightly but still has texture.
-
Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
-
Allow to cool for 10 minutes, where it will continue to thicken into a glossy compote.
