Description

Powdered sugar, also known as confectioners’ sugar or icing sugar, is just granulated sugar ground into a fine powder and often mixed with a small amount of starch to prevent clumping. Making it at home is super easy, especially if you run out mid-recipe!

Ingredients

  • 1 Cup of Organic Cane Sugar
  • 1 Tablespoon of Cornstarch

Equipment

  • Blender
  • Dry Measuring Cups
  • Measuring Spoons
  • Fine Mesh Strainer
  • Large Mason Jar

Instructions

  • Add the sugar (and cornstarch, if using) to a high-speed blender, spice grinder, or food processor.
  • Blend on high for 30 seconds to 1 minute, or until the sugar is a fine, fluffy powder.
  • Let the dust settle before opening the lid.
  • Transfer to an airtight container for storage.

Notes

  • Use a blender or spice grinder: A high-speed blender works best, but even a coffee or spice grinder can do the trick for small batches.
  • Add cornstarch to prevent clumping: This is optional but recommended if you're storing it.
  • Sift before using: For ultra-smooth frosting or glaze, sift the powdered sugar to remove any lumps.
  • Use immediately or store: Store in an airtight container for up to several months in a cool, dry place.
