Description
Powdered sugar, also known as confectioners’ sugar or icing sugar, is just granulated sugar ground into a fine powder and often mixed with a small amount of starch to prevent clumping. Making it at home is super easy, especially if you run out mid-recipe!
Ingredients
- 1 Cup of Organic Cane Sugar
- 1 Tablespoon of Cornstarch
Equipment
- Blender
- Dry Measuring Cups
- Measuring Spoons
- Fine Mesh Strainer
- Large Mason Jar
Instructions
-
Add the sugar (and cornstarch, if using) to a high-speed blender, spice grinder, or food processor.
-
Blend on high for 30 seconds to 1 minute, or until the sugar is a fine, fluffy powder.
-
Let the dust settle before opening the lid.
-
Transfer to an airtight container for storage.
Notes
- Use a blender or spice grinder: A high-speed blender works best, but even a coffee or spice grinder can do the trick for small batches.
- Add cornstarch to prevent clumping: This is optional but recommended if you're storing it.
- Sift before using: For ultra-smooth frosting or glaze, sift the powdered sugar to remove any lumps.
- Use immediately or store: Store in an airtight container for up to several months in a cool, dry place.
