Description
This deeply flavorful syrup combines caramelized ripe banana, warm spices, vanilla, and a hint of maple for a rich, comforting banana bread flavor. It’s perfect in lattes, matcha, chai, or drizzled over oatmeal and pancakes. Naturally sweet, warming, and silky—like banana bread in syrup form.
Ingredients
- 1 Banana
- 1 Cup of Water
- 1/2 Cup of Brown Sugar
- 1/4 Cup of Organic Cane Sugar
- 1 teaspoon of Vanilla Extract
- 1 teaspoon of Maple Syrup
- 1 teaspoon of Ground Cinnamon
- 1/8 teaspoon of Freshly Grated Nutmeg
- Pinch of Salt
Equipment
- Microplane
- Saucepan
- Fork
- Fine Mesh Stainless Steel Strainer
- Spoon
- Frother
- Glass Syrup Bottle
- Small Funnel
Instructions
-
Cook the syrup:In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine mashed banana, water, brown sugar, white sugar, cinnamon, freshly grated nutmeg, and salt. Bring to a low boil, stirring frequently.
-
Simmer:Once boiling, reduce to a simmer. Let cook for 10–12 minutes, stirring often to prevent sticking, until the syrup thickens slightly and the banana is soft and integrated.
-
Finish off heat:Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract and maple syrup. Let cool for 5–10 minutes.
-
Strain:Press the syrup through a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth into a glass jar with the funnel. If you have any solids left, it can be used in alternative recipes instead of discarding it.
-
Store:Refrigerate in an airtight jar for up to 7 days.
Notes
- Banana ripeness matters: Use spotty, overripe bananas for best flavor.
- For a thicker syrup, simmer a few extra minutes.
- Make it fall-friendly: Add a tiny pinch of clove or allspice for more spice warmth.
- Dessert use: Drizzle over yogurt, pancakes, waffles, or baked oatmeal.
