Prep Time: 10 mins
Cook Time: 10 mins
Total Time: 20 mins
Servings: 1.25 Cups
Cuisine: Syrup
Course: Drinks, Syrup

Description

This deeply flavorful syrup combines caramelized ripe banana, warm spices, vanilla, and a hint of maple for a rich, comforting banana bread flavor. It’s perfect in lattes, matcha, chai, or drizzled over oatmeal and pancakes. Naturally sweet, warming, and silky—like banana bread in syrup form.

Ingredients

  • 1 Banana
  • 1 Cup of Water
  • 1/2 Cup of Brown Sugar
  • 1/4 Cup of Organic Cane Sugar
  • 1 teaspoon of Vanilla Extract
  • 1 teaspoon of Maple Syrup
  • 1 teaspoon of Ground Cinnamon
  • 1/8 teaspoon of Freshly Grated Nutmeg
  • Pinch of Salt

Equipment

  • Microplane
  • Saucepan
  • Fork
  • Fine Mesh Stainless Steel Strainer
  • Spoon
  • Frother
  • Glass Syrup Bottle
  • Small Funnel

Instructions

  • Cook the syrup:
In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine mashed banana, water, brown sugar, white sugar, cinnamon, freshly grated nutmeg, and salt. Bring to a low boil, stirring frequently.
  • Simmer:
Once boiling, reduce to a simmer. Let cook for 10–12 minutes, stirring often to prevent sticking, until the syrup thickens slightly and the banana is soft and integrated.
  • Finish off heat:
Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract and maple syrup. Let cool for 5–10 minutes.
  • Strain:
Press the syrup through a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth into a glass jar with the funnel. If you have any solids left, it can be used in alternative recipes instead of discarding it.
  • Store:
Refrigerate in an airtight jar for up to 7 days.

Notes

  • Banana ripeness matters: Use spotty, overripe bananas for best flavor.
  • For a thicker syrup, simmer a few extra minutes.
  • Make it fall-friendly: Add a tiny pinch of clove or allspice for more spice warmth.
  • Dessert use: Drizzle over yogurt, pancakes, waffles, or baked oatmeal.
Phase Friendly: Luteal phase – Supports cravings for warmth, comfort, and natural sweetness. Cinnamon, banana, and healthy sugars help satisfy while stabilizing mood and blood sugar.   Season: Fall and winter – Warm, cozy, and spiced. However, also excellent year-round with iced versions for spring and summer.
